Whats great is that the Pittsburgh Penguins are now the projected first seed in the Eastern conference and would have home-ice advantage if the playoffs were to start. Could it get any better?
The answer is yes, Crosby has made his return in the Penguins 2-0 win over the Lightning last night, Gary Roberts will be back soon, Hossa will be back in a week and Whitney returned from a groin injury last night as well.
Think about these lines when everyone is healthy (hopefully):
1. Sykora, Malkin, Malone
2. Hossa, Crosby, Talbot
3. Roberts, Staal, Dupuis
4. Kennedy, Ruutu, Laraque
Defense:
1. Gonchar, Whitney
2. Whitney, Letang
3. Sydor, Gill
Goalie
1. Ty Conlkin
2. Marc-Andre Fleury
That potential depth chart is a scary thought for opposing teams.
I'm glad, Ray Shero had the stones to pull off a trade that brought us a legitimate winger to complement Crosby who will score 30 goals (Hossa) for two players who had 18 goals combined and a center on a center-heavy team. I have full confidence in Shero that he will make every attempt to resign Hossa. This team has now been construct to make a deep run at the cup for this year and two years after. Watch for this team to continue to challenge for the top seed and even make it to the Eastern finals.
